Come join us on a journey through Abilene and learn about some fun places to go and play.

Did you know that the first animal at the zoo was a red fox squirrel? Here in Abilene we say things like "howdy" and "y'all." In this book, you will learn about all of the wonderful people, places, and things that make up the great town of Abilene. At the end of our journey, you will be able to answer . . .

  • How long does it take a B-1 bomber to get down the runway?
  • Who is Dinosaur Bob, and where can you find him?
  • What is a Comanche moon?
  • What is the oldest restaurant in town?

Glenn Dromgoole is the former editor of the Abilene Reporter-News, the founder of the West Texas Book Festival, and the author of more than twenty books. In 2013, he was named Abilene's Outstanding Citizen of the Year.

Jay Moore is a native Abilenian and teaches history at Abilene High School. He is the author of Abilene History in Plain Sight. In 2013, he was selected as Outstanding Teacher of the Humanities for the State of Texas.
