“God’s people need guidance for their prayer lives, and the Psalms are a rich resource. Holloway helps us explore the Psalms as a guide for lament, thanksgiving, praise, and celebration. I enthusiastically recommend his book, especially for small groups and spiritual formation retreats.”
—Sara G. Barton, Pepperdine University Chaplain
“In the current hostile climate of racial and political division, Gary Holloway’s Meditative Commentary on Psalms comes as a much-needed gift to the fragmented church in America. Holloway approaches the Psalms by using the spiritual practice of Lectio Divina. He skillfully uses this method to transfer God’s Word written on ancient tablets of stones to the written Word on living hearts made of flesh. This is an excellent resource for spiritual retreats designed to foster spiritual growth and spiritual intimacy in building community across the divisive lines of politics and race.”
—Dr. Jerry Andrew Taylor, Associate Professor of Bible, Missions, and Ministry, Abilene Christian University; Founding Director of the Carl Spain Center on Race Studies and Spiritual Action
“Psalms: Hymns of God’s People reminds me of C. S. Lewis’s Reflection on the Psalms, which is one of my favorite devotional books. The goal of deeper Bible study is to make a connection with the source of spirituality—God himself. On our journey to deeper meditation on Scripture, we need a guide who will illuminate the path to spiritual insight. Dr. Holloway is a gracious guide on this journey. This Meditative Commentary both shines a light on the path to God through the Psalms and allows readers to discover the path and make it their own.”
—Dr. G. Steve Kinnard, Editor of Teleios; Adjunct Professor of New Testament, Lincoln Christian University; Professor of Bible/Dean of Ministry and Bible, Rocky Mountain School of Ministry and Theology
“I love a book that makes me think, and then makes me think of who I want to share it with. I want to share this book with you! In Psalms: Hymns of God’s People, Gary Holloway cracks the code of meaningful meditation. His astute scholarship and engaging style inspire and equip. Whether you’re new to the Bible or have spent your life poring over its pages, you will find yourself hearing God’s life-giving voice in fresh ways and thinking of who you want to share it with.”
—Dr. Don McLaughlin, author of Love First: Ending Hate before It’s Too Late
“Gary Holloway is a master of simple prose that gets to the heart of things and draws readers in. Here he has applied that skill to produce a rich but simple tool to make the Psalms—the believer’s prayerbook—a regular part of one’s life with God.”
